The museum was opened in November 2000 in a tranquil residential area, in Suginami Tokyo. My atelier, also my home since 1950, was remodeled to accommodate exhibition of my representative works ; these include those winning awards from Dokuritsu Art Association and Japan Women Artists Association. Most of them feature the Silk Road.
Since 1969, I have visited more than 30 countries along the Silk Road, the ancient trading route between China and Europe weaving through West Asian highlands. I was totally attracted by the people, their customs and ways of life in these mountainous areas of the Eurasian continent ; I kept on painting them during those journeys. There are times that I carried a heavy oxygen tank on highlands 5000 meter (15000 feet) above sea level ; there are times I traveled on a horseback, and stayed in a tent for many nights.
The Silk Road is indeed my life. It is great honor for me to have an opportunity to introduce my works to you. I have received an almost undue amount of compliments from the people who visited my museum, such as ‘Your paintings inspired me a lot !’, ‘I was touched by Your Silk Road !’ and so forth. My paintings are indeed the source of energy that keeps my passion goes on. The more I look into them the more inspired and dedicated I become.
We recently set up the official homepage to celebrate the museum’s 10th anniversary in 2010. I would like to thank you very much for your kindness and support. With your help, I can go back, work hard and give the Silk Road my very best.
